Vegan Bake Sales For Haiti

Many of us have been deeply moved by the recent devastation in Haiti and are looking for ways to do our small part to contribute to the relief efforts that are underway. Like many of you, responsibilities here at home keep me from hopping on the next plane to Haiti to help first hand, but it doesn't mean my heart does not ache for the people who are now displaced and suffering -  or that I cannot find a way to help from afar. On a recent visit to The Post Punk Kitchen's blog, I discovered an informative article concerning benefit bake sales and how to throw one together FAST. Of course, this site promotes vegan bake sales (which I am all about) but the same principles can be applied to 'regular' bake sales as well for all of you non-veg heads out there. Bake sales have been around forever and are a very effective way to build community and raise awareness for different causes. And who doesn't love to bake - or at least EAT baked goods?? I'm hoping to organize one that involves my daughter's entire 7th grade class... the proceeds of which will go directly to Doctors Without Borders. More information to follow soon...

Post Punk Kitchen has also compiled a comprehensive list of vegan bake sales that have been organized and are happening all across the country to benefit Haiti - so if you cannot organize one yourself, perhaps you can support one near you! Check it out - every little bit counts...
